Personal Blog: Making Goals for Yourself

Since I've been in college, I have started using a method to help myself be productive and content with myself. This method is called goal-setting and it is really beneficial to someone who is in a new environment or adjusting to a life change. Before I left for school I read about how setting goals for yourself is one of the best things you can do to motivate yourself, and so I decided that I will do it as much as I can while I'm at school.

Why Setting Goals is Important!

The first goal I set for myself was for the first couple of days I was at my college. I promised myself that I would try to be outgoing and make friends during the first days of welcome week. I went to all of the events with my roommate, and as I have mentioned in my previous blog, I made three new friends the second day that I was here. I achieved my first goal and I felt really good about it, so I decided I was going to continue to set goals for myself.

There are sections in each week of my planner called "Goals for This Week" and they are at the top of the pages for each week. Every week I try to write down goals I have for myself, and this is extremely helpful for me considering I use my planner daily. Currently, my goals are mostly academic because college requires a lot of homework and that is what I spend most of my time doing.

Last week I had a test in my Globalization and Society class that I really wanted to do good on, so I wrote that down as one of my goals. I did end up doing good on that test, so I crossed it out after I did it which was really satisfying. I also had essay revisions to work on that my professor recommended I turn in on Week 12, which was last week. I worked on my revisions every day and I turned in the paper on Thursday. A bigger goal that I set for myself last week was to get ahead of all of my work, and I think that I did get ahead of my work, just not for all of my classes. Since I feel like I didn't achieve my goal, I will move that goal to this week's list of goals.
