Personal Blog: Staying Productive and Establishing a Routine

My favorite part of being in college is the feeling of productivity. It is not always easy to be productive, but there are a lot of ways to help yourself get organized and efficient in your day-to-day life. After a couple months being here, I can say that I have established tips and tricks for myself in order to be as productive as possible.

My holy grail is my planner that I use every day. It can be a small one, a big one, a random notebook, or anything you can write on really. Everyone told me that I need to get a planner before I went to college and now I completely understand why. Personally, after I plan out my day and write it all down on my planner everything I want to accomplish seems possible. Additionally, crossing assignments off on your planner is really satisfying. Whenever I write down all of the assignments I have to do and how long I want to spend on them, I find myself completing everything I need to. When it comes to being productive, planning out your day is definitely the biggest element that has helped me daily.

Where I Got My Planner

Another factor that has really helped me is establishing a routine. Once you are used to living at school you will start to establish a routine without even knowing it, especially when you have a lot that you want to accomplish each day. For example, I do the same things every Wednesday. I get up at 8:30, brush my teeth, shower, eat a granola bar, and then do homework until my 10:40 accounting class. After accounting, I eat lunch with my friends at the dining hall, then I walk back to the business building and do more homework until I have to go to my two last classes of the day. Maintaining a routine promotes stability in your life, and it is comforting to know what you will do next. Your routines don't have to be exact, they just have to work for you and your daily schedule. If you're feeling unproductive, switch up your routine and do something different to see if you like it. For instance, switching up your study spot can be very beneficial if you feel burnt out and unproductive.
