Let's Dance Ring Season
During this crazy season there have been so many ups and downs with the North Central College football team. The season has been great. We finished the regular season undefeated for the first time since 2016. This team has something to be special about. This was the first year that this senior class has ever beat Wheaton and won the conference outright. There is a lot of special talent on this team led by Fifth year seniors like Cam Martian,Andrew Kaminski, Dakota Carmeens, and Ben Wong are to name a few who have taken this team under their wings. They all lead by example and understand that 2019 was not just a fluke and want to go out as champions along with taking another National Championship back to Naperville. The goal has always been let's go take another ring and show the country it's time to see red and not let the purple powers continue their dominant reign over D3 football.
The team has faced so much adversity from the summer to tell where we are as a team right now things have not been easy at all. The thing about this team is that we love the face of adversity. It is something that we have used as our motivation this year coming off a covid filled 2020 season where we couldn’t even be with each other as a team for the most part. We have been battle-tested throughout the season with different looks from having three Freshmen start on offense and key position quarterback, right guard and right tackle. As you can see now all three of them have been named all-conference players which is very hard to accomplish in the CCIW. They were also among 14 other guys who made the all-conference team along with us winning coach of the year, Offensive lineman of the year and Conference player of the year as well.
Teams we faced all year have told us were not good teams and that they were not supposed to be the number 1 team in the nation. But each and every week we went out and showed them why we are the truth deserves our respect. This team has had a whirlwind thrown at us each week if it’s our bus breaking down, players missing games due to injury, long bus trips to places to play, night games along with day games and mid day games. We have come together as a family and that started in 2019 along with the great leadership and trusting each other to do the right things outside of football and putting our teammates health first and making that a priority to be able to get this far. We as a team just was giving a wake up call as the team we were going to play caught covid and had to forfeit the game. We are taking this as a blessing and going to continue to move forward and keep trying to win a title.
Our team has been bonding from the fall of 2020 to where we learned that covid can wipe the campus in which it did learn after 1 Day of fall break. Then we came back in the spring and that was where we actually became a team because we didn't play a season then. We all felt that if it's not for a national championship it's no point in making that trip and wasting one of our 5th year seniors getting hurt and losing their career over games that didn't matter. Coach always said he spent too much time with them for their season and careers to be wasted for meaningless games and opportunities when we could have practice times and development of young guys to be able to play right away.
As a team we learned in the spring that we had a lot of cracks in our team and that was brought to the light in which we did navy seal training. When we did this training it helped us come together as a team. It showed us where we lacked focus and discipline in our program and we needed to fix these things to be able to make a run at the National championship. I think doing that as a team has opened up to where we are today and breaking records, going undefeated and winning the CCIW out right along with the amount of all conference players, beating Wheaton for the first time in 6 years and now being ranked the number 1 team in the country as well.
We will wait and see how the season ends but we are all hoping to repeat as national champions.
